Lots of happenings

There is a lot happening right now in the Catholic world and beyond. Since I have no time to comment on it all and since he does a much better job of it anyway, I'll let Mr. Thomas Peters (American Papist) handle it.

Vatican hopes Obama will promote human dignity

There is always hope. The pro-life message will continue to be emphasized.  Maybe Obama will pull the mother of all political flip-flops and become a pro-life advocate.  Through God, anything is possible.

.- Speaking to Vatican Radio on Wednesday, the Director of the Press Office of the Holy See, Fr. Federico Lombardi, announced that Pope Benedict XVI has sent his greetings to President-elect Barack Obama, the content of which will not be made public "because of its personal nature."

City, Nov 5, 2008 / 11:45 am (CNA)

“The duty that the President of the United States has is a task of the highest responsibility not only for his country but for the whole world, given the importance that the U.S. has in every field of the world scene," Fr. Lombardi said in Spanish.

“For this reason, we all hope the new President Obama will be able to respond to the expectations and hopes placed in him, by effectively serving what is right and just, finding adequate ways to promote world peace, favoring the growth and dignity of the human person, in full respect of the essential human and spiritual values,” the Vatican spokesman remarked.

“Believers pray that God may enlighten and assist him in this greatest responsibility," Lombardi concluded.

Vatican reaffirms Church teaching on ordination to the priesthood

I've touched on this in the past but since there has been recent coverage of so called "female ordination" of priests in the Catholic Church, I figured I would post this.  It's not a case of the big bad Church being 'stuck in the middle ages' in regards to the issue of womens ordination. There are sound theological reasons that have been in place since the founding of the Catholic Church as to why the priesthood is reserved for men.  Like many of the doctrines of the faith, this is a hard teaching for many to deal with. There are divine truths of the faith that are not subject to manipulation or change by the hands of changing cultural beliefs or the desires of man.  Holy Orders is a Sacrament and not merely a construct of the human will. The divine origin of the Sacraments in the Catholic Church necessitates proper and authentic authority to regulate and protect them.

I suggest looking into the reasoning behind this and any doctrine of the Church that you don't understand or agree with. Find sound Catholic sources and look into things.  It would be a mistake to allow people with agendas or the ignorant  to influence your opinion on important teachings of the church founded by Christ.

What will the Pope say to America?

I like this short article I found on http://catholicnewsagency.com  . I'm sure whatever the Pope says to us Americans, it will be thoughtful.  I have benefited from his wisdom and teachings on the faith .

The Church’s opposition to divorce and abortion is a ‘yes’ to human dignity

No time to write much today. Here is a random article I took from   http://www.catholicnewsagency.com

Off to class.

Take care.

Latest on the Pope snub by academics

I posted about this situation awhile ago. This is an interesting twist. If true, it smaks of typical anti-Catholic bigotry. This goes back to the statement that I say quite frequently.....Most people hate the Catholic Church for what they think the Church teaches..not what it actually teaches. Ignorance is one thing.  Outright lies.....well that's another thing.

Pope: Reproductive technologies are prone to violate human dignity

A little irony

I'm still trying to wind down from class tonight.  I'm not a big fan of late evening classes. Oh well.

I took this from the Catholic League website.  The speech he was going to give is available to read online. I thought it was good. :)

Neither Faith Nor Reason

This week, Pope Benedict XVI had to cancel a talk at Rome’s Sapienza University because 67 professors said they would stop him from speaking. The high priests of tolerance explained their exercise in censorship by saying they disagreed with the pope’s writings on science. The few instances they cited were all erroneous.

Ironically, the pope was to talk on one of his favorite subjects—the need to embrace both faith and reason—and was stopped by those who obviously believe in neither.

Oh, yes, the fascist professors owe their livelihood to Pope Boniface VIII: he founded the university in 1303 (it became independent in 1870). That’s what the Catholic clergy do—they promote faith and reason.
