So, this is what "tolerance" looks like?

From the 'you've got to be kidding me' files.

LONDON, March 10, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - UK parents could face criminal charges for having removed their children from programs held at George Tomlinson Primary School promoting the homosexual lifestyle. Waltham Forest council has announced it will prosecute parents of about 30 children who did not attend a week's worth of lessons coinciding with "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month."

"What has any of this got to do with 'history'? ... And why a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender month, anyway? Why not a Foot Fetishists, Spankers, Sadists and Masochists History Month?" He noted that the Waltham Forest council is punishing the parents for standing in the way of "tolerance" training in schools.

That's a good question! Hmmm.

Adopt A Family Info

Here is a link to information regarding the Adopt A Family program I previously mentioned.  There are 198 families listed in the metro Detroit area that could use some financial help. So many of the circumstances these families find themselves in are very serious and heartbreaking. It's been a difficult task to choose which ones to offer assistance to. I wish I could help them all.  It's something to pray over.

Consider helping out a family in need if you can.  Online donation is available.

Adopt a Family 2008.

Here is something to consider doing this holiday season. If you are in a position financially that you can help others in need, here is a program to look into. There are 83 stories of families in need you can read in the November 14, 2008 edition of The Michigan Catholic. I can team up with anyone else who wants to participate.

The Archdiocese of Detroit's Department of Parish Life & Services announces the 19th annual Adopt a Family program.

Each year parishes and Catholic social service agencies submit the stories of families struggling to make ends meet during the holiday season. And generous individuals and parishes donate funds, 100% of which are distributed to the families. While many families receive gifts of clothing or toys from a parish giving tree, they need your help to meet more direct financial needs, such as food, prescription costs, rent and utilities.

Families represent every age and ethnic origin, and reside in every county of the archdiocese. They are screened and submitted by the sponsoring parish and agencies, and are identified by a number to remain confidential.

All funds are distributed through the sponsor and not directly from the archdiocese. Donors may request their gift be given to a specific family or evenly split between two families.

Interfaith Interaction

Some students and faculty from school recently visited the nations largest mosque located not too far from me here in Dearborn. Taken from the Sacred Heart Major Seminary website.

Seminarians and faculty are guests at nation's largest mosque
by Jeff Allan, Sacred Heart seminarian

Students at the Mosque
Mr. Eide Alawan answers questions about the beliefs of Islam from seminarians and faculty members at the Islamic Center of America, April 13.
Although I didn't know much about Islam before Sunday, I learned a lot in a few hours. About twenty-five seminarians, along with faculty members Sr. Mary Finn, Fr. Mark Hamilton, Fr. Eric Weber, Dr. Ronald Prowse and his wife, Cathy (and two of their friends), visited the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan, on Sunday afternoon, April 13. Mr. Eide Alawan, outreach interfaith director, conducted the tour and was welcoming, hospitable and a wonderful host.

When we arrived at the recently completed mosque, the largest in North America, we had a short question and answer session with Mr. Alawan. The three women were asked to wrap scarves around their heads, which is a custom of modesty for women in Islam.

Speaking of statistics.......

I mention statistics because of the friendly back and forth with Josh. This post is pretty much unrelated.  This is taken from http://www.drlaura.com   Here I think we can establish more of a causal relationship with some of the stats than we saw with the pro-atheist video. Anyway.........

C'mon now, isn't it just better all the way around to marry for the right reasons, have kids within the bounds of a committed and stable marital relationship, and not shack up? (especially after a divorce with kids).  We can do this. Society can begin to change its self- centered views on dating, marriage, morality, children and family.  This can be done. I have faith!

Muslim converts

Interesting article in the Catholic News Agency about a 'high-profile' Muslim converting to Christianity. Of particular interest was the Muslim convert Magdi Allam speaking about  the Pope's brilliance in bringing people to the Christian faith by emphasizing the link between faith and reason.  Amen to that.

Coming home to the truth.

 Gorbachev professes Christian faith

Assisi, Mar. 20, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has announced his Christian faith openly, with a March 19 visit to pray at the tomb of St. Francis of Assisi.

Gorbachev-- who has often shown deference toward Christianity, and was deeply impressed by a meeting with Pope John Paul II (bio - news) in 1989-- said that he considered St. Francis a spiritual patron. "It was through St. Francis that I arrived at the Church, so it was important that I came to visit his tomb," he told reporters. The former Soviet leader spent about 30 minutes in prayer at the grotto in Assisi.

During his tenure as the last leader of the Soviet Union before its collapse, Gorbachev had held to the official Communist party doctrine of materialism. But he had been baptized in the Russian Orthodox Church, and rumors about his personal religious interests swirled even while he governed the Kremlin. After one private conversation with Gorbachev, the late President Ronald Reagan told an aide that he thought the Russian leader was "a closet believer."

Since his ouster from leadership Gorbachev has maintained an active interest in world affairs, speaking regularly on subjects that touch on the spiritual life, but maintaining a neutral posture toward any organized faith.

This is an interesting letter written to Dr. Laura.  The final message of marriage over shacking up and being good to your spouse..etc. is a good one. If kids are involved, you have no business shacking up! I've mentioned this several times...and I almost always get ignored. Oh well, it's not about me.

Getting back to the letter.  One cannot dismiss the third paragraph in which the writer (who is homosexual) states " We have also had a Commitment Ceremony in our church making a declaration before God and family that we are committed to each other and our relationship. That's all we can do. We are in this for the long haul and consider ourselves a "married couple."

They may have had some sort of ceremony in their 'church'  but that by no means makes their relationship acceptable in the eyes of God. You see, The same God to whom this couple is presenting their homosexual partnership to for presumably a divine blessing, is the same God who has clearly condemned homosexual acts as taught through sacred scripture and sacred Tradition of His Church. You can't cherry pick the teachings of Jesus Christ. God is not merely a concept to which one is able to mold into something that satisfies ones needs and desires. A ceremony that takes place in a 'church' does not automatically result in something sacred and true. The fullness of Gods grace does not fall upon any and every 'ceremony' that takes place within the confines of something that calls itself  a 'church'.   Beginning in the Old Testament and into the New, God had a habit of destroying false temples and their false messages in order to rebuild them upon a foundation of truth.

So, to be clear. This is a commentary on people bringing God into situations...such as homosexual marriage, to which God is distorted and twisted to meet the needs of whatever agenda is on tap at the moment.

Also, without knowing the couple, I can't say definitively that they are engaging in homosexual acts. I won't go so far as to see this as a generic situation and presume anything but the point still stands.

I'm still feeling pretty sick so I'll leave it at that.

Take care all

Married dating?

I think I posted about this 'dating' service before. Considering how society downgrades marriage these days a site like this doesn't surprise me. Considering the constant lowering moral standards of 'dating' relationships these days, a site like this doesn't surprise me.  Anyway, I realize that many of these letters are posted on Dr Laura's website in order to stir up sales for her books "Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" and "Proper Care and feeding of marriage" as well as her other works.

Having said that, many of the letters she posts describe situations that many of us have either experienced personally or witnessed with others. The books I previously mentioned were written to address the reality that is of the "good" guy who is married to an angry feminazi type. They weren't written for women who chose to marry  jerks. I am not into self help books and consider the majority of the ' pop-psych' material out there to be a complete waste ...if not dispensers of harmful so-called advice. I do however recommend Dr Laura's books highly. She just makes sense...and tends to do so  well beyond the superficial fluff and odd psychology that fills multiple shelves of the 'self help' section of your local book store. If I was ever to marry again, my personal precondition would be..... The woman MUST read The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands. :)  Sounds silly but it's true.

Pope: Reproductive technologies are prone to violate human dignity

I listened to a very interesting talk on Catholic radio by a local Catholic  priest Fr. John Riccardo. I  have mentioned him before. He is a great communicator and is very easy to listen to. I found an outline of the talk on his website. In discussing relativism, here are some good quotes that should inspire some thought and further investigation:
http://olgcparish.net/frjohn.php

 A) "Truth is replaced by the decision of the majority precisely because there can be no truth...This relativism, which is nowadays to be found ...is the most profound difficulty of our age."  Truth and Tolerance, 72
B "We are moving towards a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything for certain and which has as it's highest goal ones own desires." Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger ( Pope Benedict XVI)
C) "Relativism predominates. Whoever is not a relativist is someone who is intolerant. To think that someone can understand the essential truth is already seen as something intolerant.  However, in reality this exclusion of truth is a type of very grave intolerance..."  Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger interview 12-01-02.
D) "Relativism's favorite scripture is 'judge not'. The only judgment is judgment against judging. The only wrong thing is the idea that there is a real wrong." Peter Kreeft

Just a few ideas/ quotes to throw out there. Obviously, these ideas were expanded upon more in the talk.

Peace

Television drama rips Catholicism

I haven't posted one of these stories in awhile. There are always many many similar/ related stories to choose from. I try and post a few every once in awhile.  I love the quote from Catholic League president Bill Donohue “Why is it always us (Catholics)? Don’t these guys believe in diversity?”  . Good point.

The Knight I Didn't Know I Had

A letter taken from  http://www.drlaura.com/main/

Sometimes it takes something as extreme as a life threatening illness to open our eyes to reality.  In my line of work, I am very much outnumbered by women. One thing that I have experienced is that women just love to openly discuss every aspect of their relationships with husbands/ boyfriends.  Single coworkers especially seem to lack a certain personal information filter when discussing their boyfriends.  Oh man, the stories I have heard.   From "dating" a married man to shaking up after 3 months of dating, to all the predictable fallout from the aforementioned stupidity....I have heard it all.

Anyway, I thought this letter was insightful.  This woman finally saw the light. Sadly, it took a brush with death in order for her to look past the false messages of society and realize just how blessed she had been all along.
