Vatican reaffirms Church teaching on ordination to the priesthood

I've touched on this in the past but since there has been recent coverage of so called "female ordination" of priests in the Catholic Church, I figured I would post this.  It's not a case of the big bad Church being 'stuck in the middle ages' in regards to the issue of womens ordination. There are sound theological reasons that have been in place since the founding of the Catholic Church as to why the priesthood is reserved for men.  Like many of the doctrines of the faith, this is a hard teaching for many to deal with. There are divine truths of the faith that are not subject to manipulation or change by the hands of changing cultural beliefs or the desires of man.  Holy Orders is a Sacrament and not merely a construct of the human will. The divine origin of the Sacraments in the Catholic Church necessitates proper and authentic authority to regulate and protect them.

I suggest looking into the reasoning behind this and any doctrine of the Church that you don't understand or agree with. Find sound Catholic sources and look into things.  It would be a mistake to allow people with agendas or the ignorant  to influence your opinion on important teachings of the church founded by Christ.

Fishers Of Men part 2.

Fishers Of Men Part 1.

This is a video put out by the USCCB. It is geared toward vocations to the Catholic Priesthood. As someone who is considering such a vocation, this short video hits close to home.  Here, you get an excellent glimpse into the life of a Catholic Priest.  It is a life of service to God accomplished through serving others. Beyond that, a priest is responsible for performing the Sacraments. The sacraments which were instituted by Christ are a major source of grace for the faithful. Only the Catholic Church has the fullness of these instruments of grace in the seven Sacraments, with the holy Eucharist being the source and summit of the faith.

I thought I would share this short video with you. Parts 1 and 2 are about 9 minutes each.

Women Priests?

This is for my friend in regards to the discussion we had about why women can't become Catholic priests. I  have another entry on this topic a month or so ago. http://psalm123.livejournal.com/14196.html The article I have posted today is in a question and answer format.

To be a priest is not a right. Even a man cannot just become a priest because he decides he wants to be a priest. The priesthood is a calling that has to be recognized by the Church.
