Wow. It's about time.

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- The New York Times is well-known for its pro-abortion bias, but the Gray Lady is drawing praise from pro-life advocates after a news story and an online pictorial that includes pictures showing babies who are victims of abortions. One prominent pro-life advocate says she believes the Times is the first major mainstream media outlet to show them.

On Saturday, the New York Times included a front-page, above-the-fold news story that presents a strangely fair portrayal of pro-life advocates who engage in street activism.

Meanwhile, the Times' Photography, Video, and Visual Journalism online section features a photo montage showing the pictures of babies who died in abortions.

Monica Migliorino Miller, a Michigan pro-life advocate and professor at Madonna University, has taken so many pictures of babies killed in abortions she is regarded as an expert of sorts.

She told LifeNews.com over the weekend that the Times show and online pictorial is "nearly unprecedented in 37 years of legalized abortion."

"Perhaps for the first time in the history of the pro-life movement a nationally recognized paper -- or any newspaper for that matter -- has deliberately printed photos of actual abortion victims," Miller said.

Miller talked about the genesis of the news report and online photo spread.

"This is a story written by reporter Damien Cave who attended the memorial service for murdered pro-lifer, Jim Pouillon," Miller explained. "After the service, the reporter approached [me] and asked me about the use of graphic images in pro-life work. We later did a two hour interview and this story is the result."

Miller was able to take the photos because members of her pro-life group retrieved the bodies of babies killed in abortion from the dumpster of a local abortion center in April 2008.

"The two photos featured in this on-line edition are of a baby aborted by the saline method of abortion and the other is the foot of an unborn child murdered at the Women's Advisory abortion clinic in Livonia, Michigan," she told LifeNews.com.

The photographs are graphic and detailed, showing the fingers or toes of aborted babies whose entire frames are no bigger than a cell phone.

"This article is a coup," she continues, "and is sure to generate much debate -- but most importantly -- we need to pray that hearts will be changed."

"Our goal is to show and tell the truth about the injustice of abortion. I hope this story helps awaken hearts and minds," Miller concludes.

Miller encourages pro-life advocates to comment on the Times story and to thank the newspaper for running the photos online.

Media bias

Does the mainstream media report on these stories? Just posing a legitimate question.

June 17, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Since the murder of George Tiller, the Kansas late-term abortionist, several pro-life leaders have been receiving credible death threats, according to a report at pewsitter.com.

Jill Stanek, a pro-life blogger and columnist, Troy Newman, from Operation Rescue, and Fr. Frank Pavone, from Priest for Life, have all received death threats from at least one person, whom Stanek says is a pro-abortion activist whose mother has aborted a number of siblings.

Stanek has been a particular target of the ire of pro-abortion activists who believe that the "rhetoric" of the mainstream pro-life movement is responsible for Tiller’s murder. Last week she was singled out as the “worst person in the world” by MSNBC host Keith Olbermann, who accused Stanek of posting the addresses of the abortion facilities of late-term abortionists – a charge that Stanek says is completely false.

"Let me know which address is right, there's a few I could post. Or I could just drive around the houses and wait to see which one you walk out of.... Don't worry, I will find it,” states one threat Stanek received.

On the blog of Priests for Life, of which Fr. Frank Pavone is the head, an anonymous writer wrote: "Killing Father Frank will not be murder. It will be justifiable homicide."

Fr. Pavone also received another threat directed at him which says:

“I am predicting that there will be more anti-abortion terror because of this election. I AM ALSO PREDICTING THAT THIS TIME IT WILL BE ANSWERED IN KIND BY PRO-CHOICE COUNTERTERRORISTS, who will mount similar terrorist attacks against well-known right-to-lifers. FATHER FRANK will be a natural target for pro-choice counterterrorists.

“I therefore advise you, Fr Frank, if you read that there has been another abortion-clinic shooting or bombing, get out of town immediately. Take a vacation abroad. Go visit the Vatican. If there is another act of anti-abortion terror, your life will not be safe in the USA.

“Good luck.”

Another message said: “Father Frank, It would make me very happy if someone were to respond to this by snuffing YOU. No fooling. Right-to-lifers, in my book, no longer have a right to life.”

Fr. Pavone told pewsitter.com that he needs armed escorts when he is at speaking engagements, although this is nothing new for him. Pavone said that protesters frequently disrupt his presentations and radical pro-abortion groups will sometimes express their intent to engage in violent demonstrations before his visits to various places.

Stanek is presently under police and federal protection.

Federal Agents are investigating the threats.

Angels and Demons

Yes, it's fiction but unfortunately some people believe the ridiculous errors and implications contained in Angels and Demons. Do people really still believe that the Catholic Church is and has been opposed to scientific progress?  Yikes! A simple google of the most important scientific discoveries will reveal quite a few Catholic priests among other Christians. That should be enough to at least start someone down a path of learning actual Church history and the modern day relationship between scientific progress and the Catholic Church.

Lighthouse Catholic Media with Matthew Arnold is offering a free download that refutes many of the errors in Angels and Demons.  Mr. Arnold also did a series on refuting the Da Vinci Code. That one was very well done. He picks apart most of the main themes of Da Vinci Code and refutes them quite soundly.

Personally opposed but....

The folks at http://www.realcatholictv.com have started a new blog titled "personally opposed but.." This should be interesting. Just click on the link to find it. Once on the home page you can also view the Daily News with channel 7 sportscaster Vic Faust and the "Vortex" series with Michael Voris.

"Some politicans say they are "Personally Opposed" to abortion, yet vote for it anyway. These people are P.O.ed to abortion. Well, real Catholics are just P.O.ed with abortion . . ."

What This Blog Is About

"Personally Opposed But ...." is run by RealCatholicTV.com, the world's first Catholic television station on the internet. What we want to do is expose the lie that being "personally opposed" to abortion yet still supporting it means anything other than supporting abortion. We'll be concentrating on President Barack Obama's promise that he intends to reduce abortions. We think he's a miserable liar and isn't going to keep it - but we might be surprised! "

Muslim converts

Interesting article in the Catholic News Agency about a 'high-profile' Muslim converting to Christianity. Of particular interest was the Muslim convert Magdi Allam speaking about  the Pope's brilliance in bringing people to the Christian faith by emphasizing the link between faith and reason.  Amen to that.

Coming home to the truth.

 Gorbachev professes Christian faith

Assisi, Mar. 20, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has announced his Christian faith openly, with a March 19 visit to pray at the tomb of St. Francis of Assisi.

Gorbachev-- who has often shown deference toward Christianity, and was deeply impressed by a meeting with Pope John Paul II (bio - news) in 1989-- said that he considered St. Francis a spiritual patron. "It was through St. Francis that I arrived at the Church, so it was important that I came to visit his tomb," he told reporters. The former Soviet leader spent about 30 minutes in prayer at the grotto in Assisi.

During his tenure as the last leader of the Soviet Union before its collapse, Gorbachev had held to the official Communist party doctrine of materialism. But he had been baptized in the Russian Orthodox Church, and rumors about his personal religious interests swirled even while he governed the Kremlin. After one private conversation with Gorbachev, the late President Ronald Reagan told an aide that he thought the Russian leader was "a closet believer."

Since his ouster from leadership Gorbachev has maintained an active interest in world affairs, speaking regularly on subjects that touch on the spiritual life, but maintaining a neutral posture toward any organized faith.

Media is wrong about 7 social sins.

Just a follow up to the previous post about the "new sins" story...or non-story depending on how you look at it.  Not surprisingly, my comments to the very short article written in the  Daily Telegraph(UK)  were not posted on their website. There are plenty of ignorant comments posted but I guess they have no need for simple truth.  Oh well, I tried.

Take care..

There are not "new sins" !

Some of you may have heard about this from the popular media.  Rule of thumb...when something deals with the Catholic Church, go directly to the source for an answer.  Of course the popular media took it upon itself to misrepresent what was said about so called "new sins" defined by the Catholic Church.  In browsing the web, I came across quite a few people taking shots at and mocking the Church for what they thought was the truth. Wow, the arrogance and blind anger.... It doesn't take much to arm those looking to attack.  The truth is not hard to find but you have to make the effort.

:)

I was just made aware of this story of a 'politically incorrect' prayer given by a Pastor named Joe Wright before the Kansas Senate.  AMEN Pastor!! :)

When minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new sessions of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

THE PRAYER

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good,," but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We confess:

We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism.

We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism.

We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.

Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of your will. I ask it in the Name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In six short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on "The Rest of the Story" on the radio and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called one nation under God.

(Delivered before the Kansas House of Representatives by Central Christian Church Pastor Joe Wright on January 23, 1996.)
