Jimmy Carter: Abuse of Women? Blame the Catholics and Southern Baptists

"Although in a July column in The Observer Carter admits to "not having training in religion or theology," in his address to the PWR Carter appeals to his authority as someone who has "taught Bible lessons for more than 65 years."

I run into this situation quite frequently. There are so many different versions of relativism entrenched in and dumbing down society. The result of which is that people often dump the use of reason in favor of personal feelings. When it comes to religion, Christianity in particular, truth is often replaced by opinion. It's a common occurrence these days to engage in discussion with people who think that it is an intellectually acceptable position to take in which personal opinion (often misinformed) carries the same weight of credibility as actual Church teaching. People with little to no knowledge of Theology,Church history, or teachings banter about personal opinions as if they were defining infallible doctrine. The idea that everyone can define their own version of Christianity as being true is a self refuting concept. I still struggle with the currently popular idea that somehow the truth of any particular religion is based more on the subjective experience than the content and truth claims of the religion. What's the point of that? There is little truth to be found in such an arrangement.

By John-Henry Westen

MELBOURNE, December 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In an address to a gathering sponsored by the World Parliament of Religions (PWR) last Friday, former US President Jimmy Carter has once again blamed traditional religion, particularly Southern Baptists and Roman Catholics, for "creating an environment where violations against women are justified."

It is a theme that Carter has successfully used to garner media attention for several years.

Although in a July column in The Observer Carter admits to "not having training in religion or theology," in his address to the PWR Carter appeals to his authority as someone who has "taught Bible lessons for more than 65 years."

In opposition to the vast majority of authentic scholars and historians, Carter asserted: "It's clear that during the early Christian era women served as deacons, priests, bishops, apostles, teachers and prophets." He added: "It wasn't until the 4th century or the 3rd at the earliest that dominant Christian leaders, all men, twisted and distorted Holy Scriptures to perpetuate their ascendant position within the religious hierarchy."

Contrary to the theorizing of Carter, Pope John Paul II taught, "The Lord Jesus chose men to form the college of the twelve apostles, and the apostles did the same when they chose collaborators to succeed them in their ministry." He added: "the Church recognizes herself to be bound by this choice made by the Lord himself. For this reason the ordination of women is not possible." (Catechism of the Catholic Church; 1577)

Pointed anger

Here is a short article from a Bishop that I have come to respect as a great leader in the church. The angry profanity filled email he quotes in his column is similar to many discussions I have had with those that call themselves "new atheists".

A reality check from the discipleship front

What the hell don’t you understand about the term separatin [sic] of Church and State. Keep your evil hands off of our Health Care Bill. Mind your own business. We don’t care about your beliefs, and if you want to meddle in our affairs, we will be coming for you. If that’s how you want to play, we will come for your pedophile priests, your ill-gotten money you stole for decades. The Catholic church is just another organized crime syndicate that should be put out of business. Get the f--k away from Congress, or you will regret it … .

That’s a real e-mail from a real person. The man who sent it last week was either very candid or very foolish about his anger: he added his real name and e-mail address. I’ve withheld them here because I like to hope that most people, or at least many of them, are better than the poisonous things they sometimes write. But this e-mail does teach a useful lesson, because it’s not just a case of a random bigot getting in touch with his inner bully. Instead, it’s a snapshot of the anti-Catholic bitterness that drives some of the loudest voices in the current health-care debate.

Let’s remember that the Founders encouraged an active role for religion in the nation’s public life. Let’s recall that freedom of speech for Catholics, their leaders and their Church is constitutionally protected, just as it is for all citizens. Let’s also finally remember that Catholic-baiting is one of America’s oldest and most favored forms of hatred. The irony is that some of today’s ugliest bigots posture themselves as socially “progressive” and work in politics or the mass media, or both.

Where does the money go?

This is a story that broke a few months ago. This Sunday a second collection of money will take place at mass. This second collection is for the Catholic Campaign For Human Development to supposedly help alleviate poverty. It would seem that this organization is involved in promoting a radical social agenda which includes abortion and homosexuality. So, it appears at this point that money donated by Catholics each year has been helping to support groups that are anti-Catholic in their agenda. It's time to smoke out the liberal Bishops and laity in leadership positions who have been involved in this. The Church has a lot of internal cleaning to do in order to become what it is supposed to be, the mystical body of Christ on earth. Much damage has been done to the Church over the past 40 years by anti-Catholics within the church from Cardinals and Bishops on down.

As for me, there remain too many questions. I will not be donating to the CCHD this year.

I can't make this stuff up

Here is a nice collection of ignorant quotes. I don't have time to research the accuracy or context of what was said. Lets just take them as they are. What can be said other than a whole lot of people really don't have a clue about the Church they love to attack. Richard Dawkins.... stick to biology my friend.  When you roam into the realm of Theology or church related issues, it's embarrassing watching someone as bright as you look so ignorant.

MAJOR NEWSPAPERS BLAST CATHOLICISM

October 28, 2009

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows:

Last Friday on the Washington Post blog, “On Faith,” English atheist Richard Dawkins said the Catholic Church was “surely up there among the leaders” as “the greatest force for evil in the world.” He labeled the Eucharist a “cannibal feast,” adding that “possession of testicles is an essential qualification to perform the rite.” He also blamed the Church for sending missionaries “out to tell deliberate lies to AIDS-weakened Africans” regarding condoms. The Church’s outreach to Anglicans, he said, makes it “a common pimp,” noting that those who convert “will be joining an institution where buggering altar boys pervades the culture.”

On Saturday, a Los Angeles Times editorial said that “church leaders, including popes, have changed their thinking over the years about everything from usury to the culpability of Jews for the Crucifixion….” It concluded, “You don’t have to be Catholic (or Anglican) to realize that society as a whole would be better off if the church’s views of women and gays underwent a similar evolution.”

On Sunday, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd recalled that when she was in grade school, “Nuns were second-class citizens then and–40 years after feminism utterly changed America—they still are.” She called Pope Benedict XVI the “uber-conservative pope,” a.k.a. “God’s Rottweiler,” who was once “a conscripted member of the Hitler Youth.” She also accused the Church of enabling “rampant pedophilia.”

On Monday, James Carroll in the Boston Globe called the outreach to Anglicans “a cruel assault,” “an insult to loyal Catholic liberals” and “a slap at women and homosexuals.” He characterized the outreach as a “preemptive exploitation of Anglican distress.”

These deranged comments—all voiced in America’s premier newspapers—demonstrate that anti-Catholicism is the most virulent expression of bigotry in the U.S. It also shows why these newspapers, quite unlike the Catholic Church, are dying. As for the writers, they need to go to church. Either that or check into an asylum.

"safe school czar"

Here's an interesting little article. Now, I don't always agree 100% with what Bill Donohue says and I know he is actively promoting a book here, but you have to at least look into this so called "safe school czar" fellow.  The following quote is very telling.   Here we see rationalization of ones actions and a very distorted and superficial understanding of God and what He has "promised" humanity. With an understanding of God based on this type of flawed thinking, it's not difficult to see why so many people with similar ideas, believers and non-believers alike say "screw you buddy"  to their false version of Christ. These are the people I would love to try and help better understand some things.

" I decided I had done nothing wrong: He had, by promising to ‘set you free’ and never delivering on His promise. What had He done for me, other than make me feel shame and guilt? Squat. Screw you, buddy—I don’t need you around anymore, I decided.”

OBAMA SCHOOL CZAR SAYS “SCREW YOU” TO GOD

September 23, 2009

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the appointment of Kevin Jennings to be President Obama’s Safe School Czar:

Kevin Jennings, the man selected to be the Director of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, has a history of promoting homosexual conferences wherein unsafe sex practices are sold to underage kids. He is also a former drug user. As a counselor, he failed to notify the authorities of a sexual encounter between an adult gay man and a high school kid. And, not to be outdone, he has a history of bashing Christians.

Jennings, raised a Baptist by his minister father and non-believing, anti-Catholic mother, is known for lecturing the Catholic Church about its teachings on sexuality. He has also railed against the “hard core bigots” whom he says make up the “religious right.”

Jennings’ hatred of religion began at the age of 17, right after he masturbated at the thought of watching two “hot guys” take off their shirts in his home. We know this because this is exactly what he wrote in his book, Mama’s Boy, Preacher’s Son: A Memoir.

Following his masturbatory experience, Jennings revealed what happened next: “I developed a new attitude toward God as a result. Before, I was the one who was failing God; now I decided He was the one who had failed me.” Continuing, he wrote, “I decided I had done nothing wrong: He had, by promising to ‘set you free’ and never delivering on His promise. What had He done for me, other than make me feel shame and guilt? Squat. Screw you, buddy—I don’t need you around anymore, I decided.” [His italics.] He ends by saying that for many years he “reacted violently to anyone who professed any kind of religion.”

It just doesn’t get much more perverse than this. If this doesn’t prove the thesis of my new book, Secular Sabotage: How Liberals Are Destroying Religion and Culture in America, nothing does.

School officials face jail time for meal-time prayers

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 8/11/2009 7:25:00 AMBookmark and Share

prayer chalkboard smudged bigA principal and an athletic director are facing criminal charges for a lunch-time prayer

Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against Pace High School in Santa Rosa County, Florida. The ACLU claimed some teachers and administrators were endorsing religion, but the school chose to give in to the ACLU's demands rather than fight them in court.

According to the settlement, all school employees are banned from engaging in prayer or religious activities before, during, or after school hours. Now two school officials are facing criminal charges for offering meal-time prayers at an appreciation dinner for adults who had helped with a school field house project. Principal Frank Lay and athletic director Robert Freeman are scheduled to go on trial next month on criminal contempt charges. If convicted, both are subject to fines and imprisonment.

Matt Staver is founder of Liberty Counsel, which will argue the court order prohibiting prayer at school-related events violated Lay's and Freeman's constitutional rights.

Matt Staver"In this particular case, Principal Frank Lay asked the athletic director to have a prayer for the meal at an honorary luncheon in celebration for some of the athletic achievements. And then in [another] situation, the clerical worker at an event where some employees of the school were present asked her husband, who is not an employee of the school, to have a blessing over a meal," he explains. "Because of those two events, these individuals now face criminal contempt."

Staver believes that the accusers in this case are students who recently graduated. If that is the case, he says the case is moot. However, Staver adds it is outrageous to punish a school official with potential jail time for simply praying.

Anti-Christian Violence

I think it's important that we know that this type of violence is happening.

.-

The Somali Muslim extremist group Al Shabaab, which is linked to Al Qaeda, has decapitated seven people accused of being Christians and “spies” in the city of Baidoa, Somalia.

According to the AGI news agency, the extremists said they were applying Sharia law in murdering the seven people. Baidoa had been a stronghold for the transitional government that re-gained control of Somalia in 2006 with the help of Ethiopian troops.

Now the government is losing increasingly greater swaths of territory to fundamentalist groups that are beginning to appear in the country. Al Shabaab, which means “youth” in Arabic, had already decapitated three other people in the region last month.

The extremist group seeks to control the country and strictly enforce Muslim law, forcing women to wear burkas and cutting of the hands of those accused of stealing, AGI reports

Anti Christian Violence

I think it's important to know that this sort of violence is happening all over the world.

.- Religious extremists struck again in Pakistan on Saturday when a violent mob of Muslims looted and burned a Christian neighborhood, killing six Christians by burning them to death. The attacks took place in reaction to a rumor that the Koran was desecrated in a nearby village.

The violence, which took place in the central Punjab town of Gorja City, occurred early on Saturday when a throng of Muslims surged into the Christian quarter, setting all 40 of the Christian houses and two churches aflame.

As the crowd of Muslims approached Gojra City, Christians fired shots at them in self-defense.

Six Christians—four women, a man and a 7 year-old child—were burned to death in the attacks.

Angels And Demons nonsense.

I don't make a big deal out of these movies. I know some people do. Dan Brown is a Catholic basher who hates the church. That's not earth-shaking news. The methods of his anti-catholicism are what concern some people. I know from experience that there are people who read Dan Brown's books and watch the movies who actually believe as 'fact' the garbage he is selling. He is good at what he does....mixing half truths with fiction.  I just tell people who believe the nonsense to produce some evidence from legitimate sources or just simply wait a few months until some decent Christian historians and apologists write some books of their own destroying Dan Brown's claims.

Here's part of an article I found  http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/angels&demons/

I'll post a favorite topic of Church bashers...science and Galileo!  Catholic kryptonite? Not quite. It's funny how in discussions I have had with people claiming the church to be "anti-scientific progress" this is the only example they give. The church is 2,000 years old and they have one example and they don't even get that one right.

* Brown elevates science to the position of God: On p. 31, one of Brown’s characters delights in saying, “Soon all Gods will be proven to be false idols. Science has now provided answers to almost every question man can ask.” So what’s left? “There are only a few questions left,” writes Brown, “and they are the esoteric ones.” Like the very meaning of existence! On p. 218, Brown gets so excited by the promise of science that he uses italics to exclaim, “Science is God.” On p. 474, he really gets into orbit: “Medicine, electronic communications, space travel, genetic manipulation…these are the miracles about which we now tell our children. These are the miracles we herald as proof that science will bring us the answers.” Then he goes for the gold: “The ancient stories of immaculate conceptions, burning bushes, and parting seas are no longer relevant. God has become obsolete. Science has won the battle.”

Is there anything science can’t do? Evidently not. Here is Brown at his wackiest (p. 658): “Science has come to save us from our sickness, hunger, and pain! Behold science-the new God of endless miracles, omnipotent and benevolent! Ignore the weapons and the chaos.” It’s even an elixir for personal problems: “Forget the fractured loneliness and endless peril. Science is here!”

*The fact is that Catholicism promoted science & astronomy: Science would not have progressed as it has. “For the last fifty years,” says professor Thomas E. Woods, Jr., “virtually all historians of science…have concluded that the Scientific Revolution was indebted to the Church.” Sociologist Rodney Stark argues that the reason why science arose in Europe, and nowhere else, is because of Catholicism. “It is instructive that China, Islam, India, ancient Greece, and Rome all had a highly developed alchemy. But only in Europe did alchemy develop into chemistry. By the same token, many societies developed elaborate systems of astrology, but only in Europe did astrology lead to astronomy”.

The Catholic role in pioneering astronomy is not questioned. J.L. Heilborn of the University of California at Berkeley writes that “The Roman Catholic Church gave more financial aid and social support to the study of astronomy for over six centuries, from the recovery of ancient learning during the late Middle Ages into the Enlightenment than any other, and, probably, all other institutions.” The Jesuits scientific achievements alone, reached every corner of the earth.

What was it about Catholicism that made it so science-friendly, and why did science take root in Europe and not some place else? Stark knows why: “Because Christianity depicted God as a rational, responsive, dependable, and omnipotent being, and the universe as his personal creation. The natural world was thus understood to have a rational, lawful, stable structure, waiting (indeed, inviting) human comprehension.”

*Church & Galileo - many untruths: The myths about Galileo are so rich that few bother to consult the historical record to learn what really happened. Brown exploits this ignorance to the hilt. When he says on p. 41 that Galileo’s “data were incontrovertible,” he is not even close to telling the truth. For instance, we know that the tides are explained by the gravitational forces of the moon. But Galileo’s fixation on the earth revolving around the sun did not allow him to see this - he believed that the tides were understood by the earth’s revolutions around the sun. More important, what got Galileo into trouble was less his ideas than his arrogance: he made claims that he could not scientifically sustain.

If Galileo was punished for maintaining that the earth revolves around the sun, then why wasn’t Copernicus punished? After all, Copernicus broached this idea before Galileo toyed with it, and like Galileo, he was also a Catholic. The difference is that Copernicus was an honest scientist: he was content to state his ideas in the form of a hypothesis. Galileo refused to do so, even though he could not prove his hypothesis.

If the Catholic Church was out to get Galileo from the get-go, then how does one explain why he was celebrated for his work in Rome in 1611? Why did Pope Paul V embrace him? Why did he become friends with the future pope, Urban VIII? Quite frankly, Galileo never got into trouble before he started insisting that the Copernican system was positively true. When he first agreed to treat it as a hypothesis, or as a mathematical proposition, he suffered not a whit.

In 1624, Pope Urban VIII gave Galileo medals and other gifts, and pledged to continue his support for his work. According to Woods, “Urban VIII told the astronomer that the Church had never declared Copernicanism to be heretical, and that the Church would never do so”. This, of course, is not what Brown wants us to believe. Eight years later, Galileo wrote his Dialogue on the Great World Systems; he did so at the urging of the pope. But this time he made the leap of asserting that the Copernican theory was empirically true. Moreover, he presented himself as a theologian, not simply as a mathematician, as he agreed to do. The Church was not pleased, and indeed felt double-crossed by him. Just as important, the scientific community was unimpressed. His hubris was appalling to as many outside the Church as within it.

It is easy for us today to say that the Church overreacted in its treatment of Galileo. This is true. But it is also important to note that he was never tortured and never spent a day in prison. He was confined to house arrest in a modest home for nine years. He even stayed for a while in the home of the archbishop of Siena. Not exactly the Gulag-type experience we’ve been led to believe. It would be interesting to know how Brown would explain the fact that the first leader of the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences was none other than his favorite “martyr,” Galileo Galilei!

If the Catholic Church was so anti-science, why did Pope Benedict XIV grant an imprimatur to the first edition of the complete works of Galileo? He did this in 1741. And if further proof is needed to demonstrate that Galileo’s abrasiveness had something to do with the Church’s response, consider that scientists like Father Roger Boscovich continued to explore Copernican ideas at the same time Galileo was found “vehemently suspected of heresy.” It should also be noted that Catholics were never forbidden from reading Galileo. Moreover, scientific books of all kinds circulated freely during and after his censure.

Angels and Demons

Yes, it's fiction but unfortunately some people believe the ridiculous errors and implications contained in Angels and Demons. Do people really still believe that the Catholic Church is and has been opposed to scientific progress?  Yikes! A simple google of the most important scientific discoveries will reveal quite a few Catholic priests among other Christians. That should be enough to at least start someone down a path of learning actual Church history and the modern day relationship between scientific progress and the Catholic Church.

Lighthouse Catholic Media with Matthew Arnold is offering a free download that refutes many of the errors in Angels and Demons.  Mr. Arnold also did a series on refuting the Da Vinci Code. That one was very well done. He picks apart most of the main themes of Da Vinci Code and refutes them quite soundly.

This is only the beginning

It's old news but..... I am sure there are going to be many stories like this in days to come.

It turns out that the two people responsible for the blatantly anti-Catholic bill in CT, Senator Andrew McDonald and Representative Michael Lawlor are homosexual activists. Big surprise!  I have been so busy that I haven't been able to comment on this important story. Essentially the bill was an attack on the self-governing rights of the Catholic Church. It was completely unconstitutional and obviously bigoted.

This bill, moreover, is a thinly-veiled attempt to silence the Catholic Church on the important issues of the day, such as same-sex marriage.  Where is the outrage by the secular media?  This was a full out attack on religious liberty.  Thankfully, diligent Catholics protested by the thousands and the bill was withdrawn. I wonder if people even realize there is a radical and militant gay-rights movement in this country?  You would have to be blind not to notice. You might notice when they turn their attention away from the Church and put your kids school on their target list. It's one thing to have an honest and open public debate. I'm all for that. That's one thing. It's another when 'gay rights' proponents use activist judges and flawed argumentation to further their agenda. Enough already.

If you have no idea what I am hollering about, The American Papist (Thomas Peters) covered this story pretty well.

The dim view

I haven't done one of these posts in a long time. In reality, I could post several 'anti-catholic' stories per week but it just gets depressing. I try and keep from focusing too much on the negativity and ignorance.

I am frequently forced into at least listening to The View as it is often broadcasting on the big screen TV at the facility where my patients live.  Don't get me started about that show. When it comes to things Catholic,  the hosts are woefully ignorant. When it comes to issues such as abortion or so-called same sex marriage the best argument they can come up with is "if you don't like abortion, don't have one"  and "if you don't like gay marriage, don't marry a person of the same sex' . Notice I said argument..singular.. because it is the same weak argument used for two different issues. My letter to the producer to allow someone on the show that has an educated opinion from the Catholic perspective has most likely gone into the circular file :)

MEDIA CIRCUS OVER VATICAN VOLUME; FROM U.K. TO “THE VIEW”

February 23, 2009

On February 18, there was a news story in The Times (of London) about “a study approved by the Vatican” showing that men are more given to lust; women to pride. This story was reprinted in the New York Post on the same day. Both newspapers identified Wojciech Giertych as “the personal theologian” to the pope. The next day, ABC News referred to the work as a “survey.”

On February 18, panelists on the ABC show, “The View,” discussed these news reports and took the occasion to slam Catholicism. Bill Donohue responded with a news release criticizing what transpired. On today’s show, Joy Behar said that Donohue “says in a letter that we read that Barbara [Walters] should be squelching us from this type of thing.”

Donohue replies as follows:

“What a bunch of incompetents. First of all, there is no study that was approved by the Vatican on the subject. There is a book by Dominican Father Giertych, and it was not ‘approved’ by the Vatican: his comments appeared in a Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano. He is not ‘the personal theologian’ to the pope; rather, he is theologian of the papal household. Moreover, he did not conduct a survey—he wrote a book. Both the terms ‘study’ and ‘survey’ suggest something scientific, and therefore distort the priest’s work.

“What Behar calls a ‘letter’ was actually a news release. More important, I never said Walters should be squelching them. What I said was that after we hit her with a New York Times ad in 2007 for tolerating anti-Catholicism, ‘she got the message and quieted her panelists.’

“What a media circus: inept journalists feeding anti-Catholic bigots. We contacted one of the two Brit reporters, Jack Malvern, about his story but he failed to reply. It’s time he heard from our side. Let ‘View’ co-producer Bill Geddie hear from you again.”

University Professor pledges to desecrate Eucharist.

I don't have time to post much tonight (big surprise ey? :)  I'm not really sure what this guy is trying to prove. Having viewed his website several times in the past, I already have a familiarity with his very outspoken dislike (dislike is probably too weak of a word) of Christianity and the Catholic Church.  I have monitored the site for awhile and it's no place to have a reasoned discussion about the facts of Catholicism or Christianity in general. It's supposed to be a science blog but I have seen a lot of anti-Catholic rhetoric as well as plenty of misinformation and outright lies.  The mere mention of a belief in God on that site will quickly get you insulted and attacked. They also love the strawman argument. So much displaced anger.

When it comes to evangelizing, I have often heard that you have to meet a person where they are at in their thinking and experience. Having said that, I wonder how Mr Myers would react to someone obtaining a picture of his mother, wife, or some other family member and then publicly desecrating the picture? I realize the comparison is pretty weak (consecrated host vs a picture of a person) but maybe it's something that Mr. Myers could understand at some level.  Again, I see no point to his hurtful actions other than possibly to stroke his own ego to the delight of his 'fans'.

I will pray that he takes a step back at some point and thinks about what he is doing.

God bless,

Dave

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented on the latest developments to surface regarding the pledge made by Paul Z. Myers, a professor at the University of Minnesota, to desecrate the Eucharist:

“Myers was quoted yesterday saying, ‘I have to do something. I’m not going to just let this disappear.’ [Last Friday it was reported that he had acquired a Host.] He continued, ‘Something will be done. It won’t be gross. It won’t be totally tasteless, but yeah, I’ll do something that shows this cracker has no power.

There are not "new sins" !

Some of you may have heard about this from the popular media.  Rule of thumb...when something deals with the Catholic Church, go directly to the source for an answer.  Of course the popular media took it upon itself to misrepresent what was said about so called "new sins" defined by the Catholic Church.  In browsing the web, I came across quite a few people taking shots at and mocking the Church for what they thought was the truth. Wow, the arrogance and blind anger.... It doesn't take much to arm those looking to attack.  The truth is not hard to find but you have to make the effort.

Defending Catholicism against angry people!

A full day of work followed by three hours of class = Way to brain-fried to write much of anything tonight. Here is the latest newsletter written by Catholic apologist John Martignoni. Visit his website at http://www.biblechristiansociety.com  You can also hear him doing apologetics on Catholic Answers live.  I would hate to have to read all the hateful and angry email John must deal with on a daily basis. I'll stick to teaching me thinks!  People waste so much time and energy on attacking the Catholic Church. Quite often people attack armed with so much misinformation, intellectual pride and downright denial of the truth. I wonder why that is??? Well, of course I have thoughts on that question....just not tonight!

A little irony

I'm still trying to wind down from class tonight.  I'm not a big fan of late evening classes. Oh well.

I took this from the Catholic League website.  The speech he was going to give is available to read online. I thought it was good. :)

Neither Faith Nor Reason

This week, Pope Benedict XVI had to cancel a talk at Rome’s Sapienza University because 67 professors said they would stop him from speaking. The high priests of tolerance explained their exercise in censorship by saying they disagreed with the pope’s writings on science. The few instances they cited were all erroneous.

Ironically, the pope was to talk on one of his favorite subjects—the need to embrace both faith and reason—and was stopped by those who obviously believe in neither.

Oh, yes, the fascist professors owe their livelihood to Pope Boniface VIII: he founded the university in 1303 (it became independent in 1870). That’s what the Catholic clergy do—they promote faith and reason.

Television drama rips Catholicism

I haven't posted one of these stories in awhile. There are always many many similar/ related stories to choose from. I try and post a few every once in awhile.  I love the quote from Catholic League president Bill Donohue “Why is it always us (Catholics)? Don’t these guys believe in diversity?”  . Good point.
